Sayyadiyeh (Middle Eastern  Spiced Fish & Rice)

Sayyadiyeh is a beloved coastal Middle Eastern  dish featuring flaky white fish atop spiced rice, usually cooked with caramelized onions and fish broth. Using Aseel Vegetable Ghee gives the dish a light yet flavorful twist while keeping it dairyfree.

Ingredients

  •  2 white fish fillets (like sea bass or cod)
  •  1 cup long grain rice
  •  2 onions, chopped
  •  2 tbsp Aseel Vegetable Ghee
  •  1 tsp cumin
  •  1/2 tsp turmeric
  •  Salt and pepper to taste
  •  Toasted almonds or pine nuts (optional)

How to Make

  1. Panfry the fish fillets with a bit of Aseel Vegetable Ghee until golden. Set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add more ghee and sauté onions until deeply golden.
  3. Add rice, spices, salt, and 2 cups water. Cook covered until rice is done.
  4. Flake the fish and layer it over the rice or serve whole on top.
  5. Garnish with toasted nuts and more caramelized onion if desired.
